Native macOS menu bar app

Capture it.Mark it up.Paste the link.

SwiftX takes a screenshot from hotkey to shareable URL without you touching another app. Annotation, effects, recording and your own upload destinations — one pass, no round trips.

Signed, notarized and on Homebrew. Capture, editing, recording and uploads all work today — see what’s next.

One motion

Four beats between seeing it and sending it

Every step after the hotkey is something you configured once and never think about again.

  1. 01
    Press

    Capture

A hotkey dims the screen. Drag out a region, or hover a window to snap to its edges.

  2. 02
    Mark

    Annotate

Arrows, step numbers and blur land straight on the shot — no trip through another app.

  3. 03
    Send

    Upload

It goes to your own bucket or host in the background while you carry on working.

  4. 04
    Paste

    Link is ready

The URL is on your clipboard before the window closes. Paste it and move on.

What you get

Everything the screenshot needs before it’s useful

Marking up, hiding the parts nobody should see, recording the bug instead of describing it, and getting it somewhere other people can open.

Annotation editor

Arrows, boxes, step numbers, speech balloons, highlighter and a smart eraser — plus blur and pixelate for anything that shouldn't leave your machine.

Your own destinations

Upload to storage you control, a self-hosted server, an image host, or a connected Google Drive, YouTube or OneDrive account — then get the URL back on your clipboard. No SwiftX account, no SwiftX servers.

Text and codes on screen

Pull text straight off the screen with Vision-powered recognition, or read a QR code without reaching for your phone.

Always there

It lives in the menu bar, not in your Dock

SwiftX has no window to find and no app to switch to. It sits in the menu bar waiting for a hotkey, and gets out of the way the moment your link is copied.

  • Real global hotkeys that fire from any app
  • Watch a folder and upload anything dropped in it
  • Drive it from the command line or a swiftx:// link — sharex:// links work too

Your ShareX config comes with you

SwiftX reads the same uploader and preset files, keeps a compatible history database, and works with the browser extensions you already have installed. The destinations you spent an evening getting right keep working. ShareX is a separate project — SwiftX is not affiliated with it.

Questions

The things people ask first

Two ways: download the .dmg straight from the GitHub releases page, or tap the SwiftX repo with `brew tap retrohazard/swiftx https://github.com/RetroHazard/SwiftX`, install with `brew install --cask swiftx`, and get updates through `brew upgrade`. Builds are signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized, so Gatekeeper opens them without a right-click or a trip to System Settings. Building from source works too, if you'd rather compile it yourself.

Try it on your own screen
